New Report Shows Positive Impacts of Colorado Community Health Centers

In early October, Colorado Community Health Network (CCHN) released a new report on Colorado Community Health Centers to determine the impact that CHCs have on the state. The report confirmed that CHCs have powerful impacts not only on their patients, but also on the communities they serve.

CHCs positively impact Colorado by providing employment opportunities in their communities, contributing economic activity to the state, encouraging economic development, and providing a health care home to over 600,000 Coloradans. Located in 37 of Colorado’s 64 counties, CHCs serve patients from 60 of these counties at 159 clinic sites. Besides providing high quality, patient-centered care, they also have a significant economic impact. In 2011, Colorado CHCs contributed $735 million in economic activity, directly generated 3,621 full-time jobs, and contributed $95 million in total tax revenue.

In many of Colorado’s communities, CHCs are the largest employer. Their impact goes beyond their own employment and operating expenses, though; CHCs indirectly generated 2,404 jobs in other sectors in 2011. Additionally, CHCs play an essential role in attracting and retaining residents, businesses, and employment in some of the most economically challenged areas of the state because of the economic activity they generate.

CHCs play an essential role in Colorado. Not only do CHCs serve 1 in 10 Coloradans, but their economic impact also significantly affects their communities. You can read the entire report here.
